Thank you @latimesfood @holynopales @ga.briella 🧀❤️✨ Patricia called me a few weeks ago – less that a week into #ladybodega and I know I broke into tears at least once during our hour call. I was scared. She gave me space to be uncertain and honest. I can’t wait to hug you in person when this is over @holynopales ❤️ Then @ga.briella came and spent some time with us at the shop and she had just come from a few days in the desert documenting some of the pandemic-related work that our national guard is doing. Important work. I immediately thought, well, cheese doesn’t save lives, and her photographing our shop felt almost inappropriate, silly even. Then I remembered why our shop was important right now. We are connecting our community to food. We are a hub for farmers. We are supporting other small businesses – cheesemakers, beekeepers, bakers, etc. We are nourishing our fellow humans during an uncertain time. We are providing complimentary toilet paper to those who need it. It’s not life-saving work but it’s meaningful work and our cheese gang is so hopeful for the future. We’ve seen more love and compassion in the past few weeks than we’ve ever witnessed before. Martin Luther King Jr said something that has really resonated over the past couple of weeks: “But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough can you the stars” 💫 Thank you to all of the hardworking farmers, makers and purveyors in our f&b community who have been absolute stars – still coming into work to ensure our food systems stay functioning. We see you and we are overwhelmed with gratitude for you. ❤️❤️❤️ #ladybodega #ladyandlardershop
