Wise Power Use Expo Coming Up Wednesday, November 3rd

Join City Councilman Bill Rosendahl and the Mar Vista Community Council Green Committee as they host the Wise Power Use Expo this coming Wednesday, November 3rd, beginning at 6:30pm at the Windward School Auditorium in Mar Vista.

This FREE event promises to present easy ways to save electricity and money, with speakers like Chris Paine, director of the films Who Killed The Electric Car? and  The Revenge of the Electric Car, and Kevin O’Donnell of the Thread Collaborative, among others. Wise Power Use Expo, November 3rd at Windward School, Mar VistaTable presenters include Co-Opportunity, Danmer Insulating Shutter Systems, Constant Solar, Modaa, and the Sierra Club – LA Beyond Coal, among others, and there will be a raffle with Energy-saving prizes, including a whole-house energy audit from Carbon Reduction Services valued at $499 and a $1000 gift certificate on solar installation from Constant Solar.

Do-It-Yourself Costume Workshops at reDiscover Center 10/17 and 10/24

Have a Greener Halloween! At reDiscover Center you can construct a costume from the recycled materials they have in their warehouse. reDiscover Center Halloween costume DIY workshops 10/17 and 10/24The workshops will run from 1-4pm on Sunday afternoons, and you have a choice of either 10/17 or 10/24. Cost is $15. Bring a T-shirt, hoodie or something like that to use as a base and during the workshop you’ll turn it into a unique creation.

Open Neighborhoods Presents Free Solar Workshop This Thursday 10/7

Open Neighborhoods is currently running its second Community Solar program and they’re having a reception this Thursday, October 7th, from 6pm – 9pm at epOxyGreen in Venice to present information.  Open Neighborhoods Free GoSolar event 10/7/10 at epOxyGreen in VeniceI participated in the first Community Solar program they ran, in 2009, and I highly recommend stopping by to check it out. Join Me At The Farmer’s Market Sunday 10/3 For Green Halloween

I’ll be in the Green Booth at the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market this Sunday to talk about ideas for Greening Halloween. We’re making it a goal this year in our family to reduce the amount of plastic in our costumes and decorations, and there will be other moms on hand to talk about ways to reduce sugar in the treats we give out (and consume).
