Calling all Mar Vista’s Green Gardeners! The 2012 Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase has been scheduled for Saturday, April 21st from 10am to 4pm, as part of a City-wide Earth Day Celebration.

Mark your calendars to take the tour – and if you’d like your garden to be included, please contact the Mar Vista Green Committee and fill out their Garden Questionnaire.

Mar Vista, We Can Give The Bees A New Home

Have you seen the documentary The Vanishing of the Bees

Do you remember when my house was swarmed by bees?

That was actually the third time that’s happened at my house.

So clearly the bees love Mar Vista as much as I do. And since they’re already buzzing around here, there are people who want to try a pilot project for legal beekeeping here in the City of LA. (Yes, that means it currently illegal.)

Even though it’s legal in Santa Monica, which, as you know, is mere yards from the border of MV.

So if you have an opinion about this issue, please come to Tuesday night’s Mar Vista Community Council meeting and share your thoughts. It’s merely the first hurdle on the way to making this pilot project a go, and this is real democracy in action, folks. All politics is local, right?

2011 Bike Week LA takes place May 16 – 20! And here on the Westside, LA Streetsblog is hosting a Pre-Bike Week Kickoff event on Saturday, May 14th with the Westside Ride to the Venice Pier!

Meet at St. Andrews Church Saturday, May 14th at 10:30am for the ride down Barrington to Venice Blvd and from there all the way to the Pacific Ocean – more details on the Westside Ride on the FB page.

2011 Venice Garden Tour This Saturday, May 7th

Now in its 18th year, the Venice Garden and Home Tour is the much-anticipated annual fundraising event that draws visitors from all over California. The tour gives financial support for NYA’s Las Doradas Children’s Center, a licensed child care facility that provides full-time, education-based child care to low-income working families.
