The Climate Reality Project is coming to Mar Vista Thursday, March 8th at 5:30pm at the Mar Vista Library. FREE screening of Sundance Award-winner FUEL with Public climate change presentation by LAUSD Science Advisor John Zavalney.

Information about solar incentives and discounts, home energy efficiency upgrades, and Mar Vista’s official goal of 100% clean electricity. Update on neighborhood council green initiatives. Complimentary light dinner courtesy of Whole Foods West LA.

Calling all Mar Vista’s Green Gardeners! The 2012 Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase has been scheduled for Saturday, April 21st from 10am to 4pm, as part of a City-wide Earth Day Celebration.

Mark your calendars to take the tour – and if you’d like your garden to be included, please contact the Mar Vista Green Committee and fill out their Garden Questionnaire.

Mar Vista, We Can Give The Bees A New Home

Have you seen the documentary The Vanishing of the Bees

Do you remember when my house was swarmed by bees?

That was actually the third time that’s happened at my house.

So clearly the bees love Mar Vista as much as I do. And since they’re already buzzing around here, there are people who want to try a pilot project for legal beekeeping here in the City of LA. (Yes, that means it currently illegal.)

Even though it’s legal in Santa Monica, which, as you know, is mere yards from the border of MV.

So if you have an opinion about this issue, please come to Tuesday night’s Mar Vista Community Council meeting and share your thoughts. It’s merely the first hurdle on the way to making this pilot project a go, and this is real democracy in action, folks. All politics is local, right?
