It feels like summer has come early and the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market was the perfect place to enjoy the weather and get your veggies! Today, just in time for playoffs - Weiser Farms has purple and yellow Laker Baker potatoes! County Line Harvest has melons. Both Summer Harvest and Naylor farms have organic stone fruit, so let the pie baking begin!

Basiltops is back! And there was a cooking demo by Colleen Donnelly of Food, I Love You. (Is that a great name for a food blog, or what?)

And Healthy Child Healthy World was in the Green Booth today, promoting their campaign to help all children live a healthier life. I co-hosted a Healthy Child house party to get this great info out to some friends and you can do the same – it’s very easy – check their website for more information.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mar VIsta! The Farmer’s Market was full of love and good cheer for Moms – and full of all kinds of stone fruit, including cherries, peaches, nectarines and apriums (a cross between apricots and plums).

And looks what else I found: sweet corn!

It was another wonderful day in Mar Vista, and the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market was a great spot to celebrate Cinco de Mayo a day late!

There were Mariachis, a piñata, and students from Grand View Elementary’s Dual Language Program performed a dance.

Peaches have arrived, although they may need to ripen a bit more... Hunger Action LA was doing SNAP sign-ups, Here’s Dave from County Line Harvest, Large Marge was doing a cooking demo, and the Arts and Crafts Collective was set up in a new spot – by the laundromat.

It was an absolutely gorgeous day at the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market today, with several new vendors to let you know about: County Line Harvest is a new local organic farm with beautiful produce.

EVO Farm was there to sell the delicious-looking hydroponically-grown lettuce they grow. Volunteers from Occupy LA were on hand to spread awareness about Hunger Action LA and the Cal Fresh Program in Los Angeles – and they will be back next week to sign people up who qualify for Food Stamps. Alejandra was helping kids make butterfly crafts. We were entertained by the Ellyn Maybe Band with music and spoken word poetry. And new vendor Masa Artisan Gourmet Tamales had terrific tamales for taking home and cooking later.

In the Green Booth, the Ballona Institute was there to educate us about the plight of the Wetlands.

Happy Earth Day! In Mar Vista, we celebrated by getting our fruits and veggies at the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market. The market has two new farmers: Mt Moriah Farm with apples, and The Garden Of… with organic veggies – and high tech QR codes that can be scanned for recipes. So cool!

And in the Green Booth, the Master Gardeners were overrun by people wanting to know about plants. No doubt they were all inspired by the fantastic success of yesterday’s Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase!

And in the Green Booth, Modaa was on hand showing off very cool Green building materials, like Hemp, Coconut, Sorghum and Cork.

It was a gorgeous day at the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market today, sunny and breezy. The Spring Colors were everywhere. The local Police Department had an information booth with some very helpful Officers on duty. Have you tried the Empanadas? Yummy!

And in the Green Booth, The Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission was there to talk about Rainwater Gardens, which I am highly in favor of, having one of my own.

The rainy day kept a lot of people at home, but the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market carries on, rain or shine. I think it’s a great day for some roasted vegetables. Or you could have Smart Simple Gourmet make your dinner for you – like these hearty soups of theirs.

And in the Green Booth, a Representative from Transition Mar Vista was promoting the 100 Mile Meal coming up Saturday, March 31st from 12:30 – 2:30pm in the Learning Garden at Venice High.
