Absolutely gorgeous day at the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market today! Feels like summer in January. There are brussels sprouts,and Cara Cara oranges, plus tulips for Valentine’s Day planning… Two sweets today: Franny Bakes and Sassy Sultry Sweets. More Valentine’s ideas?? Hmmm….

Plus there’s a new Cheese booth with Chris Vamos, the MilkMan, bringing in cheeses from Sebastopol. His special is if you buy two hunks of cheese, the 2nd one is 5% off; buy three and the 3rd is 10% off, and so on. He’s also running a very limited super crazy special: bring him a “Legit piece of cheese art“* and you’ll get a 1/4 pound of cheese free, while supplies last.

And in the MVCC Green Booth, Mike, the Urban Organic Gardener, was there, showing off his tried and true methods for container gardening, especially for apartment dwellers.

*You must speak with Chris to get his definition of “Legit piece of cheese art.”

We’re deep in the middle of Winter veggie season here at the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market, with Beets, Chard, Kale, Guava and these awesome Mushrooms.

Plus Emma has these adorable baby girl dresses for sale, Urban Green is now in a new location on the West side of Pacific, serving pizzas and breakfast burritos (Vegan on request), and in the Green Booth, the Master Gardeners were handing out seedlings.

Pleas note that the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market will be closed on December 25th, 2011 and January 1st, 2012 in observance of Christmas and New Year’s.

This is the first time the Market will be closed two weeks in a row since it began, and I, for one, will miss it! See you on January 8th, 2012!

Today at the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market, Santa was making the rounds, handing out fresh fruit as treats.

There were crafts for the kids to make,

the Mar Vista Arts & Crafts Collective were selling gifts for the holidays,

Mama Leah’s Latkes were just in time for Channukah,

Klezmer Juice was rocking out,

there were all kinds of sweets booths,

and people were stocking up on veggies!

In the Green Booth, Sustainable Works was letting everyone know about their FREE Green Living Workshops. The next one starts January 25th and will take place at the G2 Gallery in Venice.

*Please note that the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market will be closed both Christmas day and New Year’s Day – and will return on Sunday, January 8th.

Today at the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market there was a special guest in attendance: The Grinch was there taking photos in a cool Flashy photo booth – for Free! (I couldn’t resist.)

Plus Satsuki Palter was on hand demonstrating her techniques for ikebana, Japanese flower arrangement. She teaches classes and can be reached at satsuki.palter @ verizon.net.

Free Range Orkestar was serenading us all with their tubas.

And California Green Designs was in the Green Booth with Green Santa talking about solar PV design & integration.

Come by the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market this Sunday, December 11th, to see the students of Grand View Blvd. Elementary perform a traditional Mexican Posada.

Do some holiday shopping locally this December. The Mar Vista Arts & Crafts Collective will have booths at the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market each Sunday in December, through December 18th.

All the usual great artisans will be there selling, and with a few extra additions for the Holidays, like Cane Expressions!
