Mar Vista residents concerned about “Apron Parking” turned out at the Mar Vista Farmer’s Market Sunday to protest the LA Dept. of Transportation’s decision to limit the ability to park on that strip of the driveway between the sidewalk and the street, known as the “apron”.
The City says it has decided to enforce an existing ban on apron parking to satisfy the needs of the handicapped, whose mobility is impaired by the parked cars. The neighbors say that while they certainly don’t want to restrict anyone’s mobility, they want to be able to park in the apron because it frees up street parking.
They have a website with a petition they’re asking people to sign.

These baby squirrels fell out of their tree nest yesterday and spent a lot of the day calling for help from mom, to no avail. Some very sweet passersby found them and found a squirrel rescue agency (yes, there really is such a thing) and gave them a ride to safety.
Adorable!

Youth Soccer League teams at Mar Vista Rec Center are in need of coaches! Kids are stuck on the wait list because there aren’t enough coaches signed up to make new teams. The position is volunteer, of course, but the rewards for kids are huge!
Please consider stepping up to help coach this Fall season at the park! Contact the Rec Center office to get the paperwork going as soon as you can. Mar Vista thanks you!

I am an unabashed fan of our City Councilman and Mar Vista neighbor, Bill Rosendahl! And so when I saw that he was getting back on a bike after nearly 30 years at the request of LA StreetsBlog – what can I say? I love him even more now!
