Mar Vista Farmer’s Market Wrap-Up 2-18-10

Today’s shopper is Kathy Owens and she’s making a cheese plate from Lelio & Sons Cheese. Kathy’s showing off her cheese plate with Chris Masson of the Cheese Booth.  She’s got cranberry-cinnamon goat cheese, parmigiano-reggiano, stilton with apricot, havarti with dill, smoked gouda, jarlsberg, danish blue, and garlic and herb chevre. She’s going to serve it with a big beautiful baguette. Yum!

The Master Gardeners were on hand today in the Green Booth, as they are every month. Great gardening tips, free plants and seeds. They are awesome!

Mar Vista Farmer’s Market Wrap-Up 2-21-10

Today’s shopper is my friend Donna Blazwich, Donna Blazewichwho’s going to make Sole with Bundled Vegetables. She starts by parboiling her vegetables a few minutes to get them tender: asparagus asparagusand carrots from Maggie’s Farm.carrotsMaggie's FarmThen she slices them very thinly and 2″ long, along with some red onion and finely chopped garlic. red onion and garlicThen she takes the Dover sole filets from the Smart Fish company Dover SoleSmart Fish Co.and rubs them with butter and tarragon, lays in the sliced veggies and rolls them up into bundles, hence the name! To cook, she takes lemon slices lemonsand places them in a layer on the bottom of the steamer and then lays the sole bundles on top. They steam in about 3-5 minutes, so be prepared with your side dishes! Donna’s going to make alittle arugula salad baby arugulaand some rice to go with it. Thanks, Donna! I’m going to try this dish!
