Today I shopped the market with Kate Anderson, candidate for State Assembly from the 53rd District,
the seat Ted Lieu will be termed out of by the next election. She’s a wife and mother to twin 5-year-old girls, practicing attorney, and Mar Vista resident. You can learn more about her candidacy at her website: KateAnderson.org.
Kate’s going to make an heirloom tomato salad with basil and burrata cheese tonight. She starts with these fantastic tomatoes
from Gloria’s farm stand, slices them up and arranges them on a plate. On top of the slices, she layers the basil, hand-shredded for maximum aroma, and then the burrata, pulled apart by hand.
(The burrata comes from the cheese booth at the market, which is owned by Chris Masson, seen here.)
Kate then drizzles a touch of good-quality olive oil and a dash of balsamic vinegar over the tomatoes and cheese, and finally tops it all with some coarse sea salt. A delicious and very summery salad!
By the way, the cheese booth has this new item: goat cheese with cranberries in it. It tastes like cheesecake. Yum.
