Sunday Feature: Mar Vista Farmer’s Market Wrap-Up
Posted in Farmer's Market on 27. Apr, 2009
Today our shopper was Leslie Weil,
who was picking out sugar snap peas for Chicken Pot Pie.
Her recipe comes from the Silver Palate New Basics cookbook, and involves homemade chicken stock, pearl onions, carrots, rosemary, chicken, and this amazing-sounding crust of puff pastry.
The real recipe with all the details can be found in the book, but the basic idea is you cook the veggies and the chicken, make a sauce and put it all in a ramekin and cover it with the puff pastry, which I personally would buy, because I do not have the time to make it while taking care of 2 small children. But that’s just me.
Leslie is making individual pot pies for her book club group, who are very lucky people, in my opinion. By the way, I asked, and they’re reading The Secret Scripture.

Hey Sarah,
very cool blog…so glad you approached me at the market. As a Mar Vista mom myself (yes, with two small children too, so don’ t think I’ve got time to make these laborious little chicken pot pie wonders for just anyone, on any old day of the week) I look forward to checking in to see what’s going on in the hood.
However, if you do find the time to make them, (the pot pies that is) use about a cup more chicken broth than the recipe calls for, which gives each pot pie a nice little swamp of gravy, which is the way I like it…gives you something to dunk all that puff pastry in.
