Happy Thanksgiving From Mar Vista!

It’s a gorgeous Southern California Fall day, crisp, with an amazingly bright blue sky, puffy white clouds rarely seen in these parts, and I am feeling filled with the spirit of gratitude! I hope wherever you are, the weather is great, and if you’re traveling, that the roads and rails are safe.

Enjoy your day, whether it includes the large bird for dinner or not!

The Mysterious Wild Bunnies Of Mar Vista

Picture 3
Actually, they’re not that mysterious. Somebody had pet bunnies, they over-multiplied, and then some either “got away” or were “released”. Now there are quite a few wild bunnies in our section of Mar Vista. But don’t you worry, they’ll be in yours soon!!

They stay hidden during the day, but at night they come out and sit in the street. They’ve been seen on Mitchell near Inglewood, their little red eyes blazing in the headlights as cars drive by. So please drive carefully, lest we end up with bunnies of the not-moving kind.

Mar Vista’s Got Wood!

The Wood Cafe, that is.

The Wood Cafe
Today is their soft opening, so if you go check them out, do it gently. They were the featured item on today’s Daily Candy as well, so it will get popular! Go in early, Mar Vistans, so you can become known as regulars. Plus we want to support a new local restaurant, don’t we? Yes we do!

Located on the southwest corner of Inglewood and Washington Blvds., the inside is cozy, with only a few tables, but it looks like they’ll be setting up an outdoor patio soon. They serve your standard coffee, tea and espresso drinks, as you would expect from the man who opened the Venice Grind a few blocks away, and of course, it all hits the spot. But the Wood Cafe is also serving delicious breakfast and lunch food, again, as one would expect when the other partner in the venture is non other than the man who started Cafe Laurent in nearby Culver City.

After waiting nearly 2 years for this, I can say woo-hoo! The Wood is finally here!

Little League Sign-ups Starting Soon

It’s called North Venice Little League, but don’t kid yourself: It’s located in the heart of Mar Vista, at the crest of Grand View and with an actual Vista of the Mar. The season begins in February each year, but you must sign up this Fall. Early bird registration begins November 23rd and regular registration continues into December. Please see their site for details. I recommend getting there early. The league is very popular and divisions do fill up.

Some say it’s the lure of the volunteer-run snack bar, with its impossibly delicious breakfast burritos for those 8am Saturday games, others credit the smooth sounds of Venice as they sing for all the players on opening day, but I say it’s all about watching your kids learn to play the All-American pastime and having a ball while doing it.
